Ryan gets fired up, so does Benedictine

image

The Cadets led 8-4 as they prepared to bat in the bottom of the fourth inning when Ryan gathered his players in the dugout for a brief, but direct, wakeup… Read more...

County softball teams look to match 2011 triumphs

The three Goochland County high school softball programs would be hard pressed to improve on last season’s lofty accomplishments. However, LIS champion St. Catharine’s, LIS runner-up Collegiate and Jefferson District champion Goochland are hoping to do exactly that.

Collegiate and Goochland will rely on the bulk of their returning starters for this year’s campaign. Prospects are even higher for the Cougars, they return the entire starting lineup; a situation that pleases Coach Rob Turner.

Suddenly, when all seemed lost, the Trinity Episcopal Titans found their game.

Down 44-29 to Benedictine with 7 minutes left in the VISAA quarterfinals Wednesday, Coach Rick Hamlin’s guys battled back with abandon and aplomb, gained confidence with each possession, then watched helplessly as the clock ticked to zero following Jaylen Hinton’s last-second 3-pointer that pared the home team’s five-point lead to 52-50.
