As registration numbers continue to climb for the Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10k, so does excitement surrounding the live music at the March 27 event.  In fact, the race has gained so much popularity over the past years that musicians are lining up to volunteer their services.

“We’ve had such a great response from the local music community that it’s sometimes hard to find a spot for everyone who wants to perform, “says Sports Backers event manager Ray Patterson.  “They know how special this event is, and everyone wants to be a part of it.”

With over 30 bands scheduled to perform along the 6.2 mile course, genres range from Jazz and Funk to Indie Rock, Hip-Hop and even Surf-style music.

“We want Monument Avenue to be one big block party full of fans, bands and supporters,” explains Patterson.  “Live music brings that element to the 10k.  The entertainment is free and there is a band for every style.”

Registration is still open for the 2010 Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10k, and a total of 35,000 registrants will be accepted. The registration fee is $30 through March 1. The First Market Mile Kids Run costs $15 through March 1. The fee for both events increases $5 beginning March 1. Registration is available online at www.sportsbackers.org.
