Maidens resident Troy McDermott, a rising sophomore at Goochland High School, contributed 11 points, as Richmond Metro AAU defeated Carolina Surge for the USBA 15U National Championship on May 10 in Myrtle Beach, SC.

After going 2-1 in pool play, Metro was seeded fourth for Saturday’s single elimination Championship Round.  After morning and mid-day victories, the stage was set for Metro’s afternoon square off against the Surge, coached by Michael Jordan’s brother, Larry.

McDermott was 4-for-5 from the field, including a pull-up three pointer, and 2-for-2 from the charity stripe as Richmond Metro walked away with a 70-54 victory and the USBA 15U National Championship.

Richmond Metro 15U’s Head Coach is Clarence “CT” Thornton and assisted by Jermaine “Coach J” Chandler.  Prior to the Myrtle Beach tournament, Richmond Metro 15U won the USBA Virginia State Championship going undefeated (4-0) in the state tournament.
