Last Saturday the Goochland cross country team took part in the U.S. Army X-Country Festival at Maymont in Richmond. The meet, which attracted 2,300 runners from 12 states and the District of Columbia, was a good measuring stick for the Bulldogs to see how they matched up with some of the best.

  Goochland competed in the 5k Silver division races where the boys team claimed an 8th place finish and the girls came in 13th.

  Both the boys and girls teams from Canon McMillan took their respective events. The boys won on the strength of three runners finishing in the top four. The team averaged a time of 17:17.00. The McMillian girls claimed the top three slots and four of the top five for an average time of 20:37.60.

  For the boys, Goochland got solid performances from junior Logan Adams and sophomore Aaron Maderia who finished 25th and 37th out of 87 runners. Adams recorded a time of 18:12 while Maderia came in with a time of 18:46.

However it was junior Stephen Ferguson who led the Goochland boys with a 16th place finish in a time of 17:45.

  Other top runners for the Bulldogs were senior James Connor (46), junior Fleming Bors-Koefoed (61) and sophomore Jesse McWilliams (66).

  The Goochland team turned in an average time of 18:42.40.

  The Lady Bulldogs were paced by junior Casey Doody who claimed a 17th place finish with a time of 21:58. Sophomore Abbigail Dobbertin also turned in a strong performance with a 40th place finish and a time of 23:19. Other top Goochland runners were sophomores Mariah Childress (79) and Brooke Engel (83). Senior Lauren Engel (91) rounded out the pack.
