The VHSL released its initial proposed alignment plan for the 2013-14 and 2014-15 school year Wednesday. The only Metro-area school affected is Goochland, which is slated to move to the Group AA Jefferson District.
This would be Goochland’s third move in five years. Two years ago, the Bulldogs switched from Group A to the Jefferson District.
This year, they moved back to A. The change has benefitted the football team, which currently is going for a state title and the girls volleyball squad that reached the state tournament.
Should Goochland re-enter the Jefferson District — Orange and William Monroe are slated to join, as well — it would be the smallest school in the district. Its listed enrollment is 719. The VHSL plan can be appealed.
Powhatan, which moved to the Jefferson District in 2011, is scheduled to remain in its place. Powhatan has the district’s second largest enrollment, 1,367.
The Central Region is considering a redistricting of its own, but no plans are expected to be in place until February.
