Goochland Free Clinic and Family Services Executive Director Sally Graham, far right, led the dedication last Wednesday of the group’s new emergency shelter on its east campus. An enthusiastic crowd saluted Byrd Presbyterian Church and Rev. Jock O’Connell and Knight Bowles, who, for spearheading the project and making it a reality, received a plaque naming the shelter “The Knight Owl.” Above at left, from left, are O’Connell, Beth Moore, Bowles, and Graham.

A record crowd paid its respects Monday at the Courthouse in honor of Memorial Day.
Above, the colors are brought in by Marines from the 4th Division out of Richmond. The group’s last deployment was to Iraq between February and October 2007. American Legion Post 215 hosted the event and, according to Commander Floyd Callihan, the group was very pleased with the turnout. “It was nice to see all of those who came to honor those men and women who have served this great nation,” he added.
