HINCKLEY

John Arthur Hinckley passed away on Monday, December 18, 2006. A native of Fauquier County, he was predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth Valiant Hinckley. He is survived by his children, Stewart A. Hinckley, Heather A. Spiess, Holly V. Archard and Douglas V. Hinckley, all of Richmond and John A. Hinckley Jr. of Hartland, Vermont; and eight grandchildren, D. Austin Hamilton, Anna V. Jones, Story, Isabelle, Elizabeth, Catherine, John and Eleanor Hinckley. He was a direct descendent of Presidents James Monroe, Theodore Roosevelt and Franklin D. Roosevelt. A graduate of St. Paul’s School (N.H.) and the University of Virginia, he completed studies at the Stonier Graduate School of Banking. Commissioned in the U.S. Army, he served in Wurzburg, Germany and Ft. Riley, Kansas with the First Infantry Division. He was a member of the Deep Run Hunt Club, serving on its Board, the Commonwealth Club and served as chair of the Deep Run Hunt Races for seven years. He was also senior warden at Christ Church Episcopal. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, December 27, at Christ Church Episcopal. Interment is private. In lieu of flowers, contributions should be sent to Christ Church Episcopal, 5000 Pouncey Tract Rd., Glen Allen, Va. 23059.
