Brooks
Patricia McCaslin Brooks, a devoted wife and loving mother, passed on Oct. 5, 2009. She was 74 years old. She was born in Richmond and graduated with honors from Collegiate School. She worked at Family and Children Services, was a member of Hermitage Country Club and served on the board at the Tuckahoe Women’s Club, as well as a volunteer at the Virginia Museum. She was a very active member of Dover Baptist Church, serving as deacon, a Sunday school teacher and leader of many Bible studies. She was also a lay minister at the women’s prison in Goochland. She reached out to her community and friends in many ways. She is survived by her husband, Paschal D. Brooks Jr.; and three children, Paschal D. Brooks III, George H. Brooks and Sarah Brooks Sprouse. She was the proud grandmother of seven grandchildren. The family received visitors on Thursday, Oct. 8, 2009 at the Parham Chapel of Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Road. A memorial service was held on Oct.9, 2009, at Dover Baptist Church, 635 Manakin Road, Manakin Sabot, Va. A reception immediately followed at Heritage Hall at Dover Baptist Church. A donation honoring her may be made to Dover Baptist Church Sign Fund.
Cawthon
Murriel F. Cawthon, 75, of Manakin-Sabot, passed away Oct. 7, 2009. She is survived by her husband, Raymond L. Cawthon; daughter, Heather Deane and her husband, Allen; grand-daughters, Jordan Deane and Caleigh Deane; cousin, William McFarlane and children, Christopher and Sharon, all of Abingdon, Va. Mrs. Cawthon worked for First and Merchants National Bank, now Bank of America, in commercial operations and for the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond. She was a member of Second Baptist Church for 35 years, where she was the founding director of the drama group. She was also an avid horse lover and “horse show mother extraordinaire.” The family received friends on Friday, Oct. 9, 2009 at the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 W. Broad Street. A funeral service was conducted on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009 at Second Baptist Church (at River Road and Gaskins Road). Graveside services followed at Greenwood Memorial Gardens. Snead
Robert E. Snead Sr., 80, of Manakin-Sabot, passed away on Oct. 13, 2009 after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. He is survived by his wife, Mary E. Snead; his daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Brian Coalson of Glen Allen, Va.; his sons, Robert “Eddie” Snead Jr. of Charlottesville, Va. and Michael J. Snead of Ashland, Va.; and his granddaughter, Kristen Brown and her husband, Ethan, of New Orleans, La. He is also survived by a sister, Anne Martin and husband, Barney, of Virginia Beach; two brothers, Charles O. Snead and wife, Dolly, of Chesterfield, Va. and George F. Snead and wife, Mary Katherine, of Mechanicsville, Va.; and many nieces and nephews. He was employed by Richmond Newspapers for 44 years and was a member of the Centerville Company No. 3 Volunteer Fire Department for many years. He also served on the Goochland Zoning and Planning Commission Boards. He loved to play golf and was a former member of the Richmond Country Club. The Snead family would like to thank the staff at Westport Nursing Center, the staff of Hospice Community Care and the staff of Visiting Angels for the care they provided. The family received friends Thursday, Oct. 15, 2009 at the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 W. Broad Street. A funeral service was held on Friday, Oct. 16, 2009 at St. Matthew’s United Methodist Church. Graveside services followed at Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
