Colyer
Mary Ellen Colyer, 86, of Manakin-Sabot, passed away June 8, 2009. She was the widow of Charles H. Colyer. She is survived by her sister, Julia A. Starkey of Richmond; brother, Vance Q. Alvis and wife, Barbara, of Morgantown, W.Va.; two brothers-in-law, Carlyle Colyer and wife, Lucille, and Richard B. Colyer and wife, Roslyn; sister-in-law, Frances Colyer; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mary was a lifetime member of St. Matthews United Methodist Church, where she was the organist for over 50 years. The family received friends on Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 W. Broad Street. A funeral service was conducted on Thursday, June 11, 2009 in St. Matthews United Methodist Church. Graveside services followed in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Matthews United Methodist Church.

Lewis
Charles Richmond Lewis Jr. “Buzz,” “CR,” age 79, of Manakin-Sabot, Goochland, and formerly from Bennettsville, S.C., passed away June 3, 2009. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles R. Lewis Sr. and Sarah M. Lewis; his daughters, Patricia Anne Lewis and Margaret Irene Lewis; his brother, Wallace Reid Lewis Sr.; his uncle and aunt, S.B. and Olga Quick; and his nephew, Wallace Reid Lewis Jr. He is survived by his wife, Helena C. Lewis; and his children and stepchildren, Charles R. Lewis III “Rick” and his wife, Edi, Kathryn J. Lewis, Carol Lewis Chervenak and her husband, Mark, Anne Lewis Young and her husband, Wayne, Robert L. Lewis and his wife, Barbara, Everett E. Isaacs Jr. “Chip,” Kathy B. Paulin, Lisa A. Bohn, and Edward T. Butler. He is also survived by his sister in-law, Frances Lewis and her children, Cooper Lewis Peay (Bobby) and Larry Lewis (Sylvia); and great-nephew, Heath Lewis. Also surviving are his aunt, Hazel Moseley; cousins, Steve Quick III (Linda) and Cookie Quick. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and stepgrandchildren, Leslie Lewis Leggett, Philip and Emily Chervenak, Nicholas and Connor Young, Allie, Kate and Claire Lewis, Brynley, Brad and Brooke Isaacs, Hanson and Peter Paulin, Hunter and Peter Bohn and Eleanor Butler. Mr. Lewis was born May 18, 1930 in Bennettsville, S.C. He graduated from Upper Marlboro High School, and his dream was to attend the University of South Carolina. However, he followed in his father’s footsteps and enlisted in the U.S. Navy. After the Navy, he worked a short time with Southern Bell Telephone; and then the Korean War broke out and he joined the U.S. Air Force in 1950. Mr. Lewis was retired from the United States Air Force (MSgt) and the Virginia Department of Labor. During his service with the U.S. Navy he served on the USS Columbus. During his Air Force career he served at Shaw AFB, Langley AFB, RAF Weathersfield, England, Byrd Field in Richmond, Thule ,Greenland, Nellis AFB, and Myrtle Beach AFB. He was assigned with the Virginia Air National Guard as an Air Force Advisor during the 1950s and 1960s. He was past president of the Virginia Air National Guard Retiree’s Association. He was a member of Sandston Masonic Lodge #216 and also the ACCA Temple Director’s Staff. He was also a past Commander of VFW Post 6364. The family received friends on Friday, June 5, 2009 at the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 W. Broad Street Rd., Glen Allen, Va. 23060. Funeral services were conducted at Saint Matthew’s United Methodist Church, 1706 St. Matthew’s Lane, Richmond, Va. 23233. Graveside services followed at Greenwood Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Saint Matthew’s UMC or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn. 38105. We want to acknowledge Dad’s old friend, Joe Davis from High Point, N.C., Dr. Joseph Galeski, the Henrico Doctors’ Hospital at Forest staff, the staff at Lexington Court and Hospice of Virginia.

Salmon
Virginia Geneva Hogue Salmon, 87, of Goochland, is now at rest. “Nicey” went home to be with Jesus on June 7, 2009. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Flora Hogue; sisters, Gertrude Sharpe, Bertha “Bootsie” Krzesowik, Evalee Sullivan; and brother, Edward Hogue Jr.; husband, John R. Salmon; daughters, Betty Jean Salmon and Florence Mausolf; and great-grandson, Brandon Mausolf. She is survived by a sister, Charlotte Jones and family of McCamey, Texas; and brother, George Hogue of Goochland; four sons, Johnnie (Lois), Raymond (Donna), Bruce and J.H.; one daughter, Linda Criss, all of Goochland; 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Virginia served on the Ladies Auxiliary for Goochland Company 5 for many years, and was a lifelong member of Smyrna Baptist Church. The family received friends at Norman Funeral Home, Goochland on Tuesday, June 9, 2009. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, June 10, 2009, at Smyrna Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Smyrna Baptist Church.

Sullivan
Helen Virginia Sullivan (Ginny), 85, peacefully entered eternity on Monday, June 1, 2009.  Virginia lived most of her life in NW Arkansas and moved to Goochland County, later in life. She was anxiously awaiting the meeting of her Maker, her Lord and Savior. She is now joining her dearly loved husband and family that passed before her. Ginny has left behind a long legacy of love.  Those grateful recipients include: Her son John Sullivan and his wife Marilyn. Her daughter Kim Leavers. Her Grandchildren:  Craig and Laurie Leavers, Dawn Hamilton, Trey and Heather Sullivan, Megan Sullivan, Kathleen and Jon Phillips and Erin Sullivan. Her Great grandchildren: Alison, Ashlyn, Trent, Sanden, Kacy, Ben and Tyler. Also, not to be forgotten are a multitude of treasured friends.  A private family graveside memorial service is planned for the very near future.
