Sopher
Donald Clyde Sopher, known to most as “Granpappy,” born March 15, 1923 in Payette, ID, died May 25, 2009, Memorial Day, in Eugene, OR. A seasonal resident of Crozier since 1990, he was known to many with his yard sale companion Annette Perkins of Crozier. Talkative and friendly, he was proud of his family, his service in the U.S. Navy in World War II, his Western roots, and his ability to provide for his family through the years. He is survived by his widow, Margaret Sopher, of Eugene, Oregon, and his former wife JoAnn Sopher of Manila, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Norena P. Sopher, of Charlotte, N.C. He is also survived by four of his five children, six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, three sisters, and three brothers, who mourn his passing. As directed in his will, he was cremated and his remains are to be equally scattered on the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.
White
Judith Merle Payne White, 65, went to be with the Lord on May 22, 2009. She was preceded in death by her parents, Cedric and Louise Hasher Payne; and a brother, Lt. Col. Warren Payne. She is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Bob White of Richmond; two daughters, Becky Pizzini and husband, Chris, of Midlothian, and Cathy Campbell and husband, Glenn, of Powhatan; three grandchildren, Melanie and Maura Campbell, and Thomas Pizzini; brother, John Payne and wife, Cheryl, of Tabscott; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Elton Grey White and Dale Shiflett of Mineral; nieces and nephew, Lisa Wilson of Springfield, Ohio, Donna Hamm of Palmyra, and Hunter and Katelyn Payne of Tabscott; aunts, Helen Winston and Jean Poarch of Richmond; many cousins, other relatives and friends. Judy was born and raised in Goochland, and was a life-long member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church. The family received friends on Sunday, May 24, 2009 at the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 W. Broad St. Funeral services were conducted by Dr. William Hutchinson at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church Monday, May 25, 2009. Graveside services were held in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider making donations to the Mt.
