Denham
Denham, Fred Calvin, 82, of Maidens, died on May 5, 2008 from complications due to Parkinson’s Disease. He was born on November 5, 1925 in Danville, Ky., son of the late Maude and Virgil Denham. He is survived by his wife, Ruth; son and daughter-in-law, Edward “Eddie” Louis Denham and Sue Woodson of Charlottesville; daughter and son-in-law, Patricia “Pat” Kay and Robert “Bob” Gangwer of Richmond; four grandchildren, Sarah, Sean and Sam Denham, and Lauren Gangwer; one surviving sibling, his brother, Robert “Bob” Donald Denham of Stanford, Ky.; several nieces and nephews; and a very, special family friend, Daisy Denham, the mother of Sarah and Sean, of Charlottesville, Virginia. Mr. Denham, who was a WWII veteran of the U. S. Air Force, attended the University of Louisville, graduating with a degree in business. He then spent 30 years as a Special Agent with the Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF) branch of the Treasury Department. After retirement, he worked as a claims adjuster for the Virginia Farm Bureau for several years. He was a member and deacon of Elpis Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Maidens. Being very active in law enforcement, he was the first elected president of the National Association of Criminal Investigators (NACI); a member of the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) Chapter 23, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees (Tuckahoe Chapter) (NARFE), and the National and Virginia Chapters of the Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms Association of Retirees (ATFAR). He also was a Master Mason for over 50 years with the Bowling Green, Ky., Lodge 73, a member of the Lions Club, the American Legion Post 215, the Forum Club in Goochland, the Goochland Rescue Squad, Company 5, and has served on the board of the Goochland Farm Bureau. A graveside memorial service will be held on May 17, 2008 at 2 p.m. at Elpis Christian Church with a reception to follow at the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation, 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509, New York, N.Y. 10018; Elpis Christian Church, 2071 Elpis Church Rd., Maidens, Va. 23102; or to your favorite charity.
Lanier
Lanier, Zaida Arnold, 81, of Goochland, passed away May 3, 2008, peacefully surrounded by her family. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Paul O. Lanier; son, Owen Lanier and his wife, Elizabeth; daughter, Melinda McDonald and her husband, Greg; brother, T. K. “Scoop” Arnold Jr.; sister, Ann Clark; five grandchildren, Annie Laurie McDonald, Paulie, Carrington and Ella Lanier and Kevin McDonald. Also, several beloved nieces and nephews and many friends that will miss her greatly. The family received friends at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd., where services were held Wednesday, May 7, 2008. Graveside services were held at Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
