BERKLE

Kahl I. “Charles” Berkle Jr. of Goochland, died Tuesday, March 20, 2007. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Martha Henley Berkle; five children, Joe Berkle, Susan Dunevant, Linda McCaffrey, Barbara Dickson and her husband, Jerry, Kenny Berkle and his wife, Darlene; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He served with the Marine Corps from 1943 to 1945 as an anti-aircraft gunner aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. San Jacinto and saw action in the Pacific involving Kamikaze attacks. He enjoyed woodworking and fishing with his longtime fishing partner and friend, Homer Lewis. He also enjoyed working and talking with his friend, Jim Dickerstaff. The family will receive friends Thursday, March 22, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the West Chapel of the Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 West Broad St. A graveside service will be conducted Friday, March 23, at 2 p.m. at Westhampton Memorial Park.
