Either way, one county official admits Goochland might have a real problem on its hands. And others worry the county won’t have the money to fix it. The pipes of TCSD Beneath Tuckahoe Creek Service District, a water and sewer system covering 8,000 acres and designed in anticipation of rapid commercial… Read more...

In addition to service cuts, the county has reduced its work force by 10 percent, or 15 full-time positions, and all non-public-safety employees will be required to take three unpaid furlough days… Read more...

Pulling weight at the Spring Thing in Rockville It was a hot day last Saturday, but that didn’t keep folks from turning out for the annual Spring Thing held at the Field Day of the Past grounds in Rockville. Although the main attractions were the truck and tractor pulls scheduled for 4 p.m., the lawnmower pulls in the morning sparked considerable interest. The second Classic Car Show also drew onlookers. And there were some interesting cars to look at. Take Dave Nixon’s “rat rod.” Ostensibly a 1953 Chevrolet pick-up, it had parts from 14 different cars. “I built it with… Read more...

Goochland Superintendent of Schools Linda Underwood recommended the board approve paying up to $3,500 to Mosely Architects, pending the availability of funding. Mosely would meet with county maintenance to review existing… Read more...

Goochland seniors bid high school Farewell On a hot, humid Friday night, almost 200 students received their diplomas on the football field at Goochland High School. After each student was provided with a welcome bottle of water pre-placed by maintenance staff (and Athletics and Activities Director Bryan Gordon) under their chairs, the soon-to-be graduates heard brief remarks from principal Francie Ball as well as Valedictorian Nathan Longest and Salutatorian Courtney Beasley. A somber note was struck when Ball presented an honorary diploma to the mother of Darius Athey, who was killed in Richmond almost one year ago. He… Read more...
