Ferguson sentenced; Miller facing arraignment

bfranklin@goochlandgazette.com A Goochland man who plead guilty in February to the aggravated sexual battery of a 15-year-old girl has been sentenced to 20 years in prison, with 10 years suspended. Craig Allen Ferguson, 35, was indicted in December by a Goochland grand jury on a single count of rape accomplished by using the victim’s mental incapacity or helplessness. Martin arraignment continued again

bfranklin@goochlandgazette.com Irvin Leroy “Chubby” Martin was supposed to be arraigned in Goochland Circuit Court Friday morning. Instead, he’ll wait another 39 days. Martin, 46, is charged with seven felonies, including three which, if he is ultimately convicted, could put him behind bars for the rest of his life. Scott trial continued until April

bfranklin@goochlandgazette.com A Bumpass man who authorities believe is behind a rash of burglaries in Goochland and Hanover counties last fall had his trial continued last week. Christopher Michael Scott, 24, was indicted in December by a Goochland grand jury on six felony charges, including two counts each of breaking-and-entering, grand larceny, and possessions of a firearm by a felon. His trial, which will be judged from the bench, was scheduled for Feb. 15 at 9:30 a.m. But a continuance in the case was granted last week, pushing the trial to April 4 at 2 p.m., according… Read more...

Martin, 46, is charged with seven felonies, including three which, if he is ultimately convicted, could put him behind bars for the rest of his life. Irvin Leroy “Chubby” Martin, 46, was scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday morning on six felony counts including breaking and entering with intent to commit rape, rape, and forcible sodomy. A Bumpass man charged in a string of break-ins this past fall will stand trial in February. Christopher Michael Scott, 22, appeared in Goochland County Circuit Court last Thursday for arraignment. A Goochland County Grand Jury returned a number of indictments just after noon on Tuesday, including six felony counts and one misdemeanor against Irving Leroy “Chubby” Martin. Martin, 46, was indicted on counts of breaking-and-entering with intent to commit rape as well as rape, two counts of grand larceny, arson of a motor vehicle and forcible sodomy. Shooting range appeal denied by county BZA

Andrew and Nancy Dykers’ bid for an appeal that would have allowed a shooting clays course at their Orapax hunting preserve as an accessory use failed last Tuesday night. The 2-2 vote amounted to a defeat for Orapax, which sits on about 672 acres off River Road West in central Goochland. With member George Smith not in attendance, four of the five members cast votes on the appeal.
