Scott trial set for Feb. 15, Martin due back in court next month

A Bumpass man charged in a string of break-ins this past fall will stand trial in February.

Christopher Michael Scott, 22, appeared in Goochland County Circuit Court last Thursday for arraignment. His bench trial is scheduled for Feb. 15 at 9:30 a.m., according to Goochland Commonwealth’s Attorney Claiborne H. Stokes, Jr.

A grand jury returned six felony indictments Dec. 11 against Scott, who was apprehended Nov. 15 during a routine traffic stop east of Georges Tavern on Va. Route 6.

Martin and Ferguson face life in prison if convicted on rape charges

A Goochland County Grand Jury returned a number of indictments last week, including six felony counts and one misdemeanor against a highly-wanted man and a felony rape charge against a City of Richmond employee.

Irvin Leroy “Chubby” Martin, 46, was indicted on counts of breaking-and-entering with intent to commit rape; as well as rape, two counts of grand larceny, arson of a motor vehicle and forcible sodomy.
Martin allegedly beat a Goochland woman in her home on Feb. 5 and had been on the run for eight months.

Martin will face new charges including rape, forced sodomy

A Goochland County Grand Jury returned a number of indictments just after noon on Tuesday, including six felony counts and one misdemeanor against Irving Leroy “Chubby” Martin.

Martin, 46, was indicted on counts of breaking-and-entering with intent to commit rape as well as rape, two counts of grand larceny, arson of a motor vehicle and forcible sodomy.

The Grand Jury also returned a single misdemeanor indictment for assault and battery.

Shooting range appeal denied by county BZA

Andrew and Nancy Dykers’ bid for an appeal that would have allowed a shooting clays course at their Orapax hunting preserve as an accessory use failed last Tuesday night.

The 2-2 vote amounted to a defeat for Orapax, which sits on about 672 acres off River Road West in central Goochland.

Charges mount against alleged burglar

After Goochland County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a man on Nov. 15 they believe is behind a number of break-ins that occurred this fall in Goochland and Hanover counties, authorities from both localities are continuing to add charges.

Suspected burglar caught in Goochland

Goochland County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a man last Thursday night who they believe is behind a number of break-ins that occurred this summer and fall in Goochland and Hanover counties.

Fireman won’t face charges in wreck

A Goochland County volunteer firefighter will not face charges related to an accident involving a county fire engine, which he was driving.

The driver, identified by the Virginia State Police as William Shumate, 35, was cleared of any charges in the single-vehicle accident, which occurred at approximately 10:35 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 29.

A call of reported smoke inside a home drew responders from fire Companies 4, 5, and 6 at about 10:06 a.m., according to Goochland’s Deputy Chief Eddie Ferguson.

Correctional officer gets 30 days for wallet theft

The former chief of security at Beaumont Juvenile Correctional Center in Powhatan County was convicted Monday in Goochland County General District Court of petty larceny for the theft of a wallet.

Thomas F. Neumayer was arrested by Goochland County Sheriff’s deputies last month and charged with two felony counts of credit card theft and the one count of petty larceny after a wallet was reported missing at a Goochland grocery store.

Martin returns in cuffs

For Goochland Sheriff James L. Agnew and Lt. James Mann Friday was a triumphant return to the county. Less so for former resident Irvin Leroy “Chubby” Martin, who came back in shackles.

Martin, 46, was extradited from Van Buren, Ark. Friday by local authorities who flew on a Virginia Department of Corrections jet to get the prisoner after he waived extradition following his arrest last Sunday. 

Martin had been on the run for eight months after allegedly beating a Goochland woman unconscious in her home with a golf club.

Man caught after America’s Most Wanted episode airs

The eight-month search for Irvin “Chubby” Martin ended Sunday night in Arkansas, where authorities arrested the Gum Spring native after a segment on him aired on “America’s Most Wanted.”

Martin, 45, had fled the area in the days after allegedly beating Missy Riley Feb 5 at her home in Goochland with a golf club. He had last been seen at a McDonald’s in Zion’s Crossroads in the days after the attack, according to Goochland Sheriff James L. Agnew.
