Beating of neighbor nets man 10 years

A man accused of beating a Goochland County woman nearly to death last year was sentenced to 10 years in prison on Sept.30. Irvin Leroy “Chubby” Martin, 47, was convicted in July for an attack that fractured the skull of former Gum Spring neighbor Missy Riley the morning of Feb. 5, 2007. In a non-jury trial, Circuit Judge Timothy K. Sanner also convicted him of stealing Riley’s van, setting it on fire and stealing another vehicle in an escape that eventually led him out of state as a fugitive for months. Charge certified against lawyer

On Sept. 22 a local judge certified to a grand jury the embezzlement case against a lawyer accused of stealing from the Virginia Farm Bureau while he was working there. Lawrence H. Bidwell, 49, appeared in Goochland County General District Court and agreed to a statement read by the prosecutor saying that he used a $30,000 check to the Farm Bureau to pay an $18,000 personal debt. Richmond man shot dead in Goochland

An intruder was shot and killed in Goochland County after he allegedly entered into an unlocked house trailer and struggled with the homeowner Shortly after 3 a.m. on July 25, Goochland sheriff’s deputies responded to the 2300 block of Grape Ridge Court after Adam Stone, 30, the homeowner, called to report that he had shot a man with a shotgun after the man broke into his mobile home and entered the bedroom where he and his girlfriend were sleeping. Craig Allen Ferguson, 35, was indicted in December by a Goochland grand jury on a single count of rape accomplished by using the victim’s mental incapacity or helplessness. Martin arraignment continued again

Christopher Michael Scott, 24, was indicted in December by a Goochland grand jury on six felony charges, including two counts each of breaking-and-entering, grand larceny, and possessions of a firearm by a felon.
