Goochland man charged with attempted murder
By Ken Odor A Goochland man was arrested last week and charged with attempted murder after shooting at his wife. The Goochland Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call early Tuesday morning, April 13 from a woman who reported that her husband had fired a shot at her. New charges against Goochland County’s Pet Rescue Foundation

Thompson had been scheduled to stand trial April 12 on the one remaining Class IV misdemeanor animal neglect charge facing her. After Thompson’s attorney Darvin Satterwhite asked for a continuance, a trial on the misdemeanor and the newly filed charges is now scheduled for May 24 in Goochland General District Court. Goochland doctor’s license suspended
by Ken Odor The Virginia Board of Medicine has summarily suspended the license of Manakin-Sabot based family practitioner Dr. Ralph D. Hellams Jr. The suspension, dated March 23 in a letter to Dr. Hellams, sets a hearing date of April 30 to hear evidence on allegations of unprofessional conduct. Man charged with soliciting sex from a minor in Goochland
Amy Condra A note offering oral sex to young Goochland boys led to the arrest of a Powhatan man yesterday. Vernard Jefferson Kirby, 47, of Old River Trail in Powhatan, was charged with using a cell phone to solicit oral sex from someone he believed was a 14-year-old boy, said Goochland Sheriff James L. Agnew. Former school employee gets suspended sentence in drug case

Last May, Worrell, who was an HVAC technician for the schools, pleaded guilty to possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, a class five felony. Worrell was arrested Sept. 4, 2008, after the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) found marijuana in a common room of his home as well as in other locations on the property. Officers patrolling that area yesterday heard gunshots and started searching the area. About 4:40 a.m., in the First block of East 14th Street, they found a male with gunshot wounds. The victim, identified as Darius Alphonzo Athey, 19, of the 2200 block of Chapel Hill Road in Goochland County, was taken to VCU Medical Center, where he later died. Staff Reports On the morning of May 27, the C&F Bank Branch in Goochland County was robbed by two males. The men were driving an older model dark green Buick with rust on top of the vehicle and a “Support the Troops” sticker over the right rear passenger wheel. As one man stood lookout at the front doors of the bank, a second man approached the teller and presented a note demanding cash. He lifted his jacket to display a handgun tucked into his belt. Media General News Service Two escapees who made their way out of a low level security correctional facility in Goochland over the weekend were captured Tuesday afternoon. David Michael Corbin, 25, and Joseph Troy Gray, 21, fled from the James River Work Center, which is located off Route 6 in Goochland, around 9:45 p.m. Saturday. The two were taken into custody without incident in the Springfield area of Northern Virginia by the Virginia Department of Corrections.
