GES principal Dianna Gordon cuts teacher Jennifer Casteel’s hair last week. Casteel and two other GES faculty donated hair to Locks of Love after the students raised more than $300 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
Three Goochland Elementary School faculty got a new hairstyle last week when Principal Dianna Gordon cut 10 inches of each woman’s hair for donation to Locks of Love, the program that donates hair pieces to children suffering from long term medical hair loss.
In an assembly attended by the entire student body, Gordon, under the supervision of Trish Scott of Salon Karma, made quick work of the job.
Teachers Jennifer Casteel and Zoe Parrish and school counselor Jessica Zorger had each agreed to part with their long tresses if the students reached their goal of raising $300 on the school’s “Crazy Hat Day,” on November 17.
That was the day when students were encouraged to wear their favorite headgear to school along with bringing a one dollar donation for the Leukemia – Lymphoma society.
The school raised $330 and donated a check in that amount to Debbie Bridewell, Campaign Coordinator of School and Youth Programs for the Virginia Chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
“I’ll miss her long hair but I fully support what she’s doing,” said Casteel’s husband Briggs, who stopped by to watch.
“The money will go to find a cure for blood cancer,” Bridewell told the students after the check presentation. “The teachers are brave to part with their hair, but the children with blood cancer are even braver.”
After their initial shearing, each of the three faculty members was scheduled for a free styling at Salon Karma.
