Kevin Myers, Director of Parks and Recreation, is keeping his title, but he’s taking it to a different county.
After serving Goochland County for almost ten years, Kevin Myers is resigning from his position to assume a new one in Powhatan.
“No one is in that position; it will be a brand new department,” he said. “I’ll be doing exactly what I’ve been doing in Goochland, but will be starting from scratch—building relationships with the youth associations there and getting senior programs started.”
According to Assistant County Administrator Greg Reid, Myers’ efforts with youth and senior programs here in Goochland has greatly benefited the community.
“We’re going to miss Kevin,” he said. “He’s done a good job, and we wish him well with the opportunity he has in Powhatan.”
According to an article in the Nov.19 issue of Powhatan Today, about 45 applicants applied for the $55,000 per year position. The paper also reported that the new director will be responsible for maintaining existing facilities as well as expanding youth activities, and will be responsible for developing senior programs and health and wellness projects.
Myers said that he is looking forward to the challenges ahead, but added that he will miss the citizens of Goochland. “It’s tough leaving—once you’re a bulldog, you’re always a bulldog!”
