Taylor Bernard Martin, 44, was arrested Monday for grand larceny by Augusta County sheriff’s deputies, where he is being held.

Martin was to be arraigned by video conference Monday afternoon in Goochland General District Court.

According to Goochland Sheriff James L. Agnew, Martin attempted to steal a vehicle at the Ashland Road Park and Ride adjacent to I-64 on the afternoon of Dec. 10. A friend of the vehicle owner spotted Martin, who claimed to be from a vehicle repair company. The friend managed to take a digital photo of Martin, who then fled on foot across I-64 after the friend called 911.

A caller identified Martin the next day after seeing the photograph on a television newscast.

Martin had just been released from Riverside Regional Jail in Hopewell. Goochland deputies recovered the clothing Martin had been wearing upon his release from the jail near the crime scene.
