The layoffs were spread among 30 locations across the mid-Atlantic, the company said in a statement.

“The reduction of force is going to impact about 150 of our associates, however not all will be losing their jobs,” said Linda Tissiere, Director, Corporate Communications Group, Luck Stone Corporation. “Some are being asked to relocate or to take on a new role.”

According to a statement released by the company, “Luck Stone has been reducing costs since 2006 in an effort to sustain our current staffing levels. However, a continued significant decline in demand for our product has left us no other choice than to make additional adjustments to our cost structure, which directly impacts our associates.”

Located in Manakin-Sabot, Luck Stone is family-owned supplier of crushed stone, topsoil, mulch and sand and gravel. It also operates a real estate development firm, manufactures clay tennis courts and sells man-made stone for landscaping, residential and business projects.

The company, which was founded in 1923, gave separation packages to all employees who were let go and set up a resource center to provide them information about benefits, financial assistance and career services.

“The decision to conduct this reduction in force was a difficult one and we greatly appreciate the contributions these valued and talented associates have made,” the company said.
