Homeowners Warned About Potential Safety Issues with Gas-Fired Generator Installations
Published: January 11, 2012
Contributed Report from the Goochland Department of Building Inspection

Concerned about homeowner safety, Goochland County Department of Building Inspection has issued a warning to all residents of the County who have had gas-fired whole-house generators installed by Virginia Air Mechanical.

In Chesterfield County, they obtained a court-ordered injunction against local corporation Virginia Air Mechanical in an effort to obtain information about the location of gas-fired whole-house generators installed by the company. The injunction also prevents the company from doing any work in Chesterfield County until at least January 17, when there will be another hearing on the temporary injunction.
Inspections in Chesterfield County have discovered electrical work that poses significant risk of electrocution, and propane gas installation defects that create a threat of fire and/or explosion.

The Goochland County Department of Building Inspection warns homeowners who have had work performed by Virginia Air Mechanical not to use their generators until inspection and any required corrective action is taken.

Goochland County has requested information from Chesterfield County that was obtained by search warrant from Virginia Air Mechanical, to identify the locations where such work was done within Goochland County so that the installations can be reviewed and inspected to determine if they are safe. Virginia Air Mechanical has failed to provide that information willingly despite several requests over the past two months.
There is a substantial likelihood that homeowners who had these generators installed are at risk because Virginia Air Mechanical incorrectly installed gas-fired whole-house generators without obtaining the required permits and the defective installations present significant risk for property damage or personal injury if the generators are activated.

The Building Inspection Department has no records through which it can contact these individuals and recommends that anyone who has had work performed by Virginia Air Mechanical contact the Building Inspection Department immediately.

The Department of Building Inspection is aware of one instance where Virginia Air Mechanical has installed a gas-fired whole-house generator at a residence in the county. However, there may be other instances that the Building Inspection Department may not be aware of it the proper permits were not applied for and issued.

Virginia Air Mechanical was a trading name for Virginia Air Ducts, LLC. The owner of the company has advised that Virginia Air Mechanical has gone out of business and Chesterfield County Building Inspections personnel have confirmed that Virginia Air Mechanical no longer has a state contractor’s license. The owner provided the Chesterfield County Building Inspection Department with a letter transferring all of Virginia Air Mechanical’s outstanding building permits to a new company, Superior Mechanical Services, LLC.

The owner of Virginia Air Mechanical and his spouse are listed as representatives of both Virginia Air Mechanical and Superior Mechanical Services on documents that have been filed with Chesterfield County’s Building Inspection Department.
Home Worx is another company name that has surfaced as having a connection to the other companies named above.

Consequently, anyone who has had work performed by Virginia Air Mechanical; Virginia Air Duct, Inc; Home Worx; Superior Mechanical Services, LLC or any agents or employees of Steve or Angela Mills is urged to contact the Department of Building Inspection at 804-556-5815.

I totally agree, this problem goes way beyond generatores. If you have had any work done by these people, I highly suggest that you call an inspector ASAP. They were doing HVAC work, and records are being made available by an unknown source, with proof that they dabbled in pluming, electric work, and all sorts of elegal activity. I suggest anyone who has worked for this pethadic so called company come forth. Newsflash documents have not all been shreaded. So with that said, best wishes Steve and Marilyn. Hell wouldn’t be good enough at this point.

This is not just about the persons that have had a generator installed.  I suggest their are persons with contracts who have given these companies deposits of $4000.00 or more as down payments to have them install a generator, and are holding the bag with nothing to show for it.  I for one who put down a $4000.00 deposit to have one installed by Virginia Air Mechanical.  Subsequently, I cancelled the contract because they couldn’t furnish what they promised.  Oh yes, I got my deposit back in the form of a bad check for “non sufficient funds” in their account.  These people, Steve Mills, wife Angela, Marilyn Graham and John Holder are all criminals.  They need to be put under the jail instead in the jail.  they are so evil taking advantage of senior citizens that no place in hell would be good enough for them.

My brother worked for Va. Air mechanical and the stories I have heard are crazy. What takes place in those meetings Steve would have with every apprentice is more than I care to share. My brother was only employed 2 weeks when he was let go for not complying with lies about work done.

Steve Mills and Angie Mills deserve every bit that’s happening to them. Some of the workers there are in hiding and changing numbers, what you running from? Inspector knows a lot more than you could imagine.
