Good medical advice is sometimes hard to find, but not if you know where to look. Various healthcare providers dosed out good information just for the asking at a Health Fair held last weekend at the Goochland Farmers Market.

Dr. Eric Carlson with Family Chiropractic Center of Richmond and his staff organized the event in coordination with Lisa Dearden, executive director of the Farmer’s Market.

“There are several health fairs in Richmond but none out here, so we thought it would be a good idea,” said Jessica Galliano of Family Chiropractic. “There’s such a great network of healthcare providers here, from physical therapy and chiropractic to workout with the YMCA and Curves,” she said.

The event took advantage of a bustling crowd at the Farmer’s Market, quickly becoming a Goochland Saturday morning staple.

Many citizens took advantage of the fair to check blood pressures and receive other health screenings. There was also an ample dose of good living advice available.

“We wanted to pool all of these health resources together in one location for the community,” Galliano said.

This month’s event is a warm up of sorts for another health fair scheduled for Sept. 26 at J. Sargeant Reynolds. “This is kind of like the preliminary just to acquaint people with the event,” Galliano said.

The American Heart Association occupied a prominent place at the fair and Galliano said the fall event would feature more non-profit organizations.

“This one came up kind of soon so some of them couldn’t be here today, but they’ll be here in the fall,” she said.

The fair was held in the social hall at Grace Episcopal Church. Dr. Carlson’s office is located in Manakin-Sabot on Broad Street.

Correction: The next Goochland Health Fair will be held at the Goochland YMCA, not at J. Sargeant Reynolds as published in the article.

Thanks for the coverage on this!
