A Goochland man was arrested last week and charged with attempted murder after shooting at his wife.

The Goochland Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call early Tuesday morning, April 13 from a woman who reported that her husband had fired a shot at her.

Edward Thurston Bonham, 60, surrendered without resistance when deputies arrived at the home in the 5000 block of Three Chopt Road shortly after 1 a.m.

Goochland Sheriff’s Office spokesman Chad Hatton said after a lengthy verbal argument between Bonham and his wife escalated, he picked up his wife’s 9 mm pistol and fired one shot at her. She was not harmed, the bullet lodging in a wall of the residence.

Neither party suffered any injuries, said Hatton.

Bonham, who reportedly had been drinking, has been charged with attempted murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and using a firearm in the commission of a felony.

He is being held in the Henrico County Jail on $5,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in Goochland County General District Court on April 19 at 9 a.m. Hatton said the arraignment would likely be done via a video hookup.
