Goochland County High School was evacuated for about 40 minutes Thursday morning after gas fumes were noted in a computer lab, said school spokesperson Brad Franklin.

After students and teachers noted the odor at 8:35 a.m., middle and high school students were evacuated.

Fire-Rescue personnel, including Crozier Company 2, responded, and identified a malfunctioning light in the lab as the cause of the fumes.

“There was a light valance that overheated and created a little bit of smoke,” said Goochland Fire Chief Ken Brown. “But there were no injuries and no damage.”

Fire Marshall Phillip Paquette cleared the building for re-entry at 9.40 a.m.,and students were back in class by 9:55 a.m.
