Once again it’s time for the Goochland Chamber of Commerce’s annual event which features the many fine businesses in the county.

For the sixth year, the chamber will sponsor its business expo – “A Taste of Goochland,” on September 15 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Camp Brady Saunders at 1723 Maidens Road.

“We’re pretty much filled up,” said chamber executive director Bonnie Creasy last week. “But we’ll find a spot for any business that still wants to sign up,” she said. The popular expo is open to the public free of charge each year, said Creasy.

Entertainment will be provided by “Highway 64.” There will be door prizes furnished by local companies and the Goochland High School baseball team will sell hot dogs and hamburgers.

“This will be an exciting event for every member of the family,” said Creasy. Besides live music and lots of food, there will be a “bounce house” for kids, a dunking tank (with a rumored appearance by a school board member as the dunkee) and a showing of Fireweed Alpacas.

“Sparky,” mascot of the Goochland Fire Department, is also expected to make an appearance.

The Goochland Chamber of Commerce represents about 300 businesses doing business in the county, said Creasy.

Last week the chamber held another of its popular Business After Hours gatherings at Byrd Cellars at Rassawek in western Goochland, generating a lively crowd.

“I was very pleased with the attendance,” said Creasy.

Under a gazebo transplanted from Richmond’s Sixth Street Marketplace, chamber members and visitors sampled wines and networked on a pleasant Wednesday evening.

A joint venture between three partners, Bruce and Kathy Murray, Paul and Sue Anne Klinefelter and Joe Liesfeld, the business opened last year, featuring a variety of wines, including Norton and Norton Reserve and Raven Red.

“We hope to host weddings and parties here,” said Liesfeld.

Byrd Cellars is anticipating opening their tasting room at the end of this month, said Jenny Liesfeld.
