Goochland County is preparing to celebrate the Fourth of July with a star spangled celebration at Hidden Rock Park. The annual celebration features fireworks, music and a good time with old-fashioned flair.
Parks and Recreation Department director Kevin Myers said his staff is expecting around 2,000 people to show for the festivities, and if past years are any indication, Myers is expecting a smooth run for this year’s event.
“We want people to come out and celebrate the fourth with their family and friends, that’s our main goal. Especially with gas prices what they are, this is a chance to stay local, come out and have a good time—celebrate living in America, the country’s birth date, and get home safely,” Myers said.
Myers said getting to the event should be easy also as parking will be provided in satellite locations and shuttle service will be provided.
Parking is available at the Goochland Fairgrounds Building, the lower parking lot at the Goochland Sports Center, the Goochland County Administration Building, the library and J. Sargeant Reynolds lot.
Handicapped parking is available onsite, and buses will run on regular schedules to shuttle crowds in and out of Hidden Rock.
Buses begin running at 4:45 p.m. and will run every five to ten minutes, according to Myers.
“Our goal is to actually keep waits no longer than three minutes,” he said.
Music will be provided by the Cross River Band and festivities begin at 5 p.m. The band begins at 7 p.m. and fireworks will follow at 9:20 p.m.
Food will be available from vendors and there will be rides for the kiddies. Arts and crafts displays are also planned.
