Less than a week from now Goochland citizens will have the chance to cast their vote for their favored Congressional candidate.
Who will 7th District voters choose to serve us in the next House of Representatives?
To help you make an informed decision, The Goochland Gazette asked the three candidates to answer five questions; here are their unedited answers.
What do you believe are the most important issues facing voters in the 7th District?
Jobs and the economy. One leads to the other and both are in trouble because of the big spending and government intrusion into the private sector of both major parties.
What is the single most effective way to encourage the creation of jobs to reduce unemployment?
Reduce the tax and regulation burden on businesses. Do that and watch how fast manufacturing returns to the U.S.
What should be done to reduce the federal deficit - more taxation, reduction in federal programs or a combination of both? If taxes, which should be increased; if reductions in federal programs, which ones?
Taxes should be cut further and in more places in order to stimulate the proliferation of disposable income. Spending by the Federal government must be curtailed and focused only on the enumerated responsibilities allowed the government in the Constitution. The list of cuts would be too long to include here, but we could start with things like abolishing the Department of Education at the Federal level and returning that responsibility back to the states and localities. Bring our troops home from the over 130 countries they are currently stationed in. Those would be good starts.
Do you favor extending the Bush tax cuts which are set to expire at the end of this year? If so, should these cuts be for all taxpayers or just for those earning less than $250,000?
Extend them, cut more taxes for more people. No class warfare.
What is your position on the recently enacted health care bill?
It should be fully and completely repealed and a free market solution, such as I have on my website, should be implemented. Get the government out of the free market.
