On July 12, friends, family and the Emmaus Baptist Church congregation honored Deacon Robert Junious Owens Sr. for his 30 years of service as a deacon. He joined Emmaus at the age of 15 and over the years rendered his service through the Usher Board, Trustee Board, and Pastor’s Aid Committee. On Oct. 8, 1989, Robert was ordained as a deacon. He is also a member of the Deacon’s Conference of Goochland and Vicinity.
Robert married his childhood sweetheart, Olivia Marie Waddy, on March 2, 1958. To this union there were four children: Robert, Jr., Rodney, Darrell, and Delesia. He has eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Robert was employed by FFV for over 26 years, and later worked for Goochland County Public School in Maintenance and Transportation. He retired in June 1997. During his leisure time, he enjoys working with his wife, Marie, on his farm tending to the cattle, hogs, and garden. Robert is a humble servant who has made a difference at Emmaus and within the Goochland community.
