A Hadensville woman will face two misdemeanor charges of animal neglect in Goochland District Court on April 12.

Annette Thompson operates the Pet Rescue Foundation in Hadensville.

Two warrants were sworn out last week against Thompson, one alleging animal cruelty, a class 1 misdemeanor, in the death of a horse last year at the foundation and one alleging animal neglect, a class 4 misdemeanor.
In a preliminary hearing on Monday, March 8 before Judge Edward Carpenter, the more serious charge involving the death of the horse was amended to a class 4 misdemeanor.

Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney Nancy Oglesby said there was not enough evidence to support the more serious charge of animal cruelty.

Maximum penalty for a class 4 misdemeanor is a $250 fine.

According to Oglesby, Goochland Animal Control inspected the facility last week and found no current violations.

You are kidding, Wendell of Chantilly, aren’t you?  You are comparing a rescue at an event trying to get animals adopted to animals in dirty, extremely cold, wet, or extremely dry, hot conditions with nothing but that to look forward to except the fence around them and someone throwing food and water once a day as fast as they can…...That is really deep, caring thinking on your part.  If you want to attack someone for doing the right thing, at least have come credible excuse for doing it.

Oh my gosh Patti- some of your pups are in cages with food spilled all around and wet newspaper, obviously pee’d on. The horror for Shasta, Mother Lode, and Boomtown.

And worse is poor Muck- chained to a door handle, I thought you were all about “breaking the chains”?

Lance and Larry forced to stay in that non-sheltered wire cage at some pet expo bringing in money to your cause.

If good intentions were gold, MAYBE Annette would be able to feed and give basic vaccinations and basic vet care to the animals she has.  But they aren’t.  And cold is cold, and hungry is hungry…hot is hot…sick is sick.  Heartworms happen to non-treated dogs. I, for one, can’t imagine taking on more animals than I can care for properly, and Annette should feel the same way.  Instead, the animals there live without vet care when they need it, sometimes go without food, and most will never even go on a walk with a human, or be outside of their pen EVER AGAIN!  If I was a “pet” I would rather be dead!  She is truly a “hoarder”.  Jail time, I’m not sure.  Stopping more animals from living in/with these conditions YES!!!!!!

Well Ricky - rescuers have been trying for years to help her.  We take 25 dogs and she gets 35 more.  Most of the dogs removed from her property have serious medical issues (yes - we can prove it when the time is right).

Responsible rescuers do not taken in 150 - 200+ dogs, especially ones as old as her (although she is NOT a rescuer).  We know that we have to have the financial and physical ability to care for the animals.  One old lady cannot take care of 25 dogs, let alone the up to 300 she has had on the property - and yes, once again, we have eyewitnesses to that FACT.

She has alienated almost every rescue group that has tried to help her - and yes, I can prove that too.

Read my link above about hoarders.

Rescue has been trying to help her for many, many years.  She lies and manipulates real rescuers until they realize what horrible things she does and then they give up in frustration.  She says she won’t take in more dogs and then gets 20 more.

So how about you Ricky? What have you done to help someone you are defending?

so why Ms Stinson didnt you go in and help ms.Thompson get a hold of things , show her your techniques . help her raise money . she obviously has a passion without the finances .  like i said before if you didnt try to help her and you “Ms.Stinson” knew of problems you are just as quilty .
personally i dont see whats wrong with living in a camper . beats owing the bank . how does that affect this case . just more info put out to distort the facts . a common technique nowadays .

You people that say she is doing a good thing must be blind, it is pretty sad when no other rescue will help her, because of the dogs being sick and not vetted, And for all of you that think you know so much she does take animals out of the shelters, that is why she has so many. I know of people that have tired to help her and the dogs are in awful shape.
I guess the old saying goes a DOG is A DOG. Oh well if they live outside and might get fed today and might not. You people say that is OK well it is not they deserve to have a life and they never get the chance when they get to Annette’s they are caged for life and given a death sentence at her house with misery.
And also when the dogs are sick or hurt she doesn’t take them to the vet. She self medicates and sews them up herself.
Why don’t some of you people go out there and see if she will let you walk through her property and see how bad ity is. Why don’t you go out there and live on the end of a chain or in a kennel that you can’t stand up in or turn around.
Listen to the RESCUERS that are doing a good thing saving these poor fur babies from a life of HELL>
You ought to be ashamed of yourself thinking that she is so wonderful.
I have been in rescue for 10 years and I have never heard anything good about her.
This is my 2 cents.
A devoted Rescue person that wants to save the animals not kill them.

PLEASE STAND UP AND HELP THESE POOR FUR BABIES
WE ARE ALL THEY HAVE WE ARE THEIR VOICE

By the way “anonymous” (apparently you don’t believe what you’re writing since you won’t post your name), the dogs don’t have beds.  They sleep on concrete.

I challenge you go visit her right this second.  First, she likely won’t let you on the property, and if she does, tell me how much dog poop you see and how many beds are there.

I dare you.  Go see her right now.

Patti Stinson of Reston VA  |  Mar. 9, 2010, 02:45 PM

Let me clue you in on a few facts

I have more than a clue.  I have facts, witnesses, and proof, which will all be revealed when the time is right.

Thompson does not “work to help animals”.  They live outdoors, in their own poop.  They are not vetted and they get almost zero human contact.  Why don’t you ask her to provide some vet records?  All reputable rescues can do that - going back years.  She takes in tiny puppies and puts then in OUTSIDE kennels or chains them to trees - that’s where they spend their entire lives.

Gracious?  Thompson?  That’s funny.

The animals don’t have buildings.  Perhaps you are confused and were at the wrong place.  They live in chain link kennels OUTDOORS.

Thompson lives in a trailer - not a mobile home - a trailer - the kind you tow behind your car on family vacations.

She runs out of food constantly, and water bowls are usually filled with green slime.  In the winter, the buckets she uses are frozen solid.  Ask the State Vet for inspection reports - it’s all documented by his staff.  You can FOIA them.

She has had up to 300 dogs on her property and is usually at 150 - 175 per EYEWITNESSES who have been watching her for years.

If you think she doesn’t take animals from shelters, you’re a fool.  Email me privately and I’ll give you the name of several.  You can check with them yourself.

Let me know what you think of the reports once you receive them from the State Vet.  My email address is .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

You have to wonder if Ms Stinson has any clue what she is talking about. She has no idea how hard Annette Thompson works to help these animals. We adopted a dog several years ago from Annette Thompson, and while we were there a truck dumped 2 dogs on her property and promptly sped off. Ms Thompson consistently has dogs/ puppies, etc dumped on her - and Ms Stinson and others should be thankful that Annette is gracious and caring enough to take these poor animals in and care for them. It is all those who have dumped these dogs that should be prosecuted! Ms Thompson has obviously dedicated her life to helping these poor unwanted animals and giving them a second chance.  While at her facility, I could see that all of the animals had shelters (most of them have buildings), food, water, and they all seemed upbeat and thankful that someone cared enough to give them food and a bed. They did not appear thin and/or starving at all. There were around 100 dogs (not 300) on the property. She does not pull these dogs from shelters - but rather takes these animals in as strays - how in the world can she possibly control the number of strays that show up??? - got an answer for that one Ms. Stinson?? - while you are so quick to judge without lifting a finger to help!!
