A Hadensville woman will face two misdemeanor charges of animal neglect in Goochland District Court on April 12.
Annette Thompson operates the Pet Rescue Foundation in Hadensville.
Two warrants were sworn out last week against Thompson, one alleging animal cruelty, a class 1 misdemeanor, in the death of a horse last year at the foundation and one alleging animal neglect, a class 4 misdemeanor.
In a preliminary hearing on Monday, March 8 before Judge Edward Carpenter, the more serious charge involving the death of the horse was amended to a class 4 misdemeanor.
Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney Nancy Oglesby said there was not enough evidence to support the more serious charge of animal cruelty.
Maximum penalty for a class 4 misdemeanor is a $250 fine.
According to Oglesby, Goochland Animal Control inspected the facility last week and found no current violations.

To take aim at someones education whom you know nothing about is childish . susie q you wouldnt even sign your real name . shame on you ! odell is a fine upstanding hardworking loved member of our community . and anything he says you can take to the bank .
i see a whole lot of people who instead of helping sat back and watched . i say you are just as guilty . ms. thompson may not be qualified but her heart was in the right place unfortunatly her thinking may have been slightly off . jail time i say no she was trying to do the right thing . her intent was good .

Goochland Animal Control found no violations? Did they actually examine any of the animals (assuming they are qualified to do so), or did they just walk through the property and pat her on the head (as they’ve been doing for years)? They examined the property when the white horse was there and didn’t find anything wrong. It doesn’t take a genius to see that this horse was suffering - yet they didn’t notice. How did they miss it? Kinda makes you wonder what their qualifications are, doesn’t it?

Real rescuers know all about this woman. Her animals live in filth. They spend their lives in misery with no human contact and no love. They live outside in extreme heat and freezing cold. While we were warm in our homes during the recent snowstorms, these dogs were living outside. She is a textbook hoarder. She needs to be tried, convicted, and punished, and those poor suffering animals must be taken away so they can live out the rest of their lives in a safe environment where they are loved - not as pawns in her world of insanity.

Rescues do get animals in bad shape - and they fix them. She gets them in good shape and puts them in bad shape. She gets them in bad shape and kills them/lets them die. She has old dogs there that have been there since they were puppies - they are now old, sick (she does not do vetting because she has no money), unsocialized (no human contact) dogs and they are tied to trees or confined to small pens for their entire lives. She is not a rescuer. One old woman can’t care for hundreds of animals - period. She has had almost 300 dogs there and she has no money and no volunteers. She needs to be jailed,

Im not sure what Jodi Grove saw but one has to wonder why she waited so long to swear out warrants . a lot of times these rescue places are given malnourished animals that cannot be saved .
