A Hadensville woman will face two misdemeanor charges of animal neglect in Goochland District Court on April 12.

Annette Thompson operates the Pet Rescue Foundation in Hadensville.

Two warrants were sworn out last week against Thompson, one alleging animal cruelty, a class 1 misdemeanor, in the death of a horse last year at the foundation and one alleging animal neglect, a class 4 misdemeanor.
In a preliminary hearing on Monday, March 8 before Judge Edward Carpenter, the more serious charge involving the death of the horse was amended to a class 4 misdemeanor.

Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney Nancy Oglesby said there was not enough evidence to support the more serious charge of animal cruelty.

Maximum penalty for a class 4 misdemeanor is a $250 fine.

According to Oglesby, Goochland Animal Control inspected the facility last week and found no current violations.

I have known Annette for 28 years.  She is a truely passionate person. The comments made about her person and actions are incorrect and irresponsible.
If you knew her, you would understand that she loves her animals more than herslef.  She has sacrificed in so many ways to ensure the animals in her care are proveded for.  Unfortunately she does not have unlilmited help or resources and must accomplish much with very little.
She does what no one else is willing to do.  She truely makes a difference.
It is very easy to sit on the sidelines and criticize others.  Perhaps each of you should take a long look at yourself before being so judgemental of others!

Maybe you need to check your facts before commenting.  Rescue has put TENS OF THOUSANDS of dollars into SICK DOGS they’ve taken from Thompson. Ask Thompson for her vet bills for the past year to see how much SHE has spent on the dogs.

I have known Annette Thompson for several years and I have also had the pleasure of working with her partaking in the care of her animals. I refused to believe the alledged charges with stand in a court of law…she is the most dedicated and compassionate person I know when it comes to her animals…maybe if you put your money where your mouth is(negativity) the world would be so much better to live in.

Oh really “Esmeralda”?  Why don’t you post your real name and email address so I can call you a liar properly.

As far as going to Annette’s - go for it - she won’t let you on the property.  She knows she’s being watched.

First it was Page County, then Assisi “Rescue”, now it’s Thompson’s turn to pay for the abuse and neglect she’s inflicted.

Do ya’ll realize that the one hound you were in the pen with might have come there unsocialized?  Many of those dogs out there are hunting dogs - abandonded by their owners.  They never were socialized!  Geesh, instead of sitting behind your computer - get up & make a difference by visiting there yourself!  Help an animal from there - that’s what I did!

Wrong again folks - I’m not Annette nor her friend.  Just a rescuer who has witnessed many people/groups targeted by Patti Stinson.  I’ve been to Annette’s muliple times, not just recently.  I also know that not one rescue group would ever meet every single person’s criteria to be perfect.  If there’s a problem there, then go there yourself & then make your judgement.  Don’t rely on others!  I’m simply saying do your own research please.

Esmeralda, you are either Annette or a friend of Annette’s. You are right about one thing. I can guarantee it that her place right now has never looked so spotless because she knows all eyes are on her. I volunteered there multiple times & in one pen, my friend and I filled up 3 huge white buckets of poop with only 2 dogs. ONE PEN, TWO PEOPLE, AND IT TOOK US 40 MINUTES. It was quite obvious that nobody had been back in that area for months. By the way that pen had a self feeder and it was empty. We brought it to Annette’s attention and only then were those poor dogs given food. Who knows how long it had been empty.  The one dog was an old black hound mix in dire need of medical treatment for a rampant skin infection and the other dog was a younger hound who was petrified of people and would not come near us because it was obvious he had not been socialized properly around people.  It is absolutely disgusting what she has been allowed to get away with for so long.

The dogs have been without food for days sometime
this needs to be looked into- no shots
she vets her dogs like sewing dogs up, all things
vets do and she is not a vet.
hundreds and hundreds of dogs and other animals
have been suffering under her so called care.
this is bad and needs to be taken care of now.
goochland animal control obviously does know
what they are doing, any decent animal control
would have closed her down, hanover got on the
horse hoarder asap, 2 weeks ago.what the hell
is the problem noone is doing anything about this
except this group of people who had charges brought against annette. why does it take someone
from outside goochland to do this?

Esmeralda of Anywhere  |  Mar. 14, 2010, 12:10 PM

Hey Patti - I have been there & I have seen vet records!  I have also witnessed A Forever Home’s foster homes with puppies in crates on top of crates inside a garage!  I’ve also worked with many legitmate rescues & don’t need clarification from someone like you.  People:  judge for yourself - go out to Annette’s & look with your own eyes.  Don’t listen to Patti or her typed words - you can not always believe what you read.  Patti is just a troll waiting to pick on someone so she doesn’t have to look too close to home!  She’s been at it for years & won’t stop as long as folks listen to her banter & don’t use their own brains to judge for themselves!

Patti Stinson of Reston, VA  |  Mar. 14, 2010, 11:35 AM

Hey Esmeralda - You are apparently ignorant of Thompson’s operation.  Why don’t you run down there and ask her for a tour.  Better yet, ask her for vet records for the dogs at her place.  I’ll be you a month’s salary that she doesn’t have any.  After that, call any legitimate rescue and ask about their record-keeping.
