The Goochland Chamber of Commerce’s golf and events committees went above and beyond this year for the Business After Hours Pre-Tee Celebration and the 16th Annual Chamber Golf Tournament. Way above.

Held May 21 and 22, both events were more picturesque than ever with a hot air balloon hovering over the Sycamore Creek Golf Course and the Fork Union Military Academy Cadet Bagpipers providing music.

Thirty-one golf teams participated in the tournament — a new record for the event.

The Golf Committee was co-chaired by Bob Atkinson of Atkinson Irrigation and Dan Rogers of Virginia Properties. Executive director for the Chamber, Doris Elderman, said committee members “did an exceptional job of signing-up 31 golf teams, which was a record for the Chamber.”

Balloons Over Virginia Inc. brought a hot air balloon to the Business After Hours and Pre-Tee Celebration on Monday. Owner and pilot Gilbert Martin offered rides throughout the evening.

The first place team was Luck Stone, and consisted of Brad Duty, Jim Stark, Jeff Starke and Harold Hardin. The second place team was Bank of Goochland and the players were Andy McLean, Gregg Tripp, Basil Tripp and Jeff Tripp. Whitney Properties placed third and team members included Tad Wyche, Coley Rice, Jeff Gray and Robert Wiley.

The winner of the Chamber’s “Wagon of Cheer” was Dan Hinderliter. The winner of “Kinloch’s” foursome was Richard Tribble of ChemTreat. 

It was a tie for the Chamber’s Putting Contest and the two winners were Jock O’Connell and Jerry Pinney.

Red Oak Café provided the Chamber with dinner for 124 golfers and 20 volunteers.

Luck Stone sponsored the Chamber’s lunch for all golfers and volunteers.
