Three Goochland women featured in new coffee table release

Dementi Milestone Publishing launched its latest book, “Famous Horsewomen of Virginia” last week at Saddlery Trade Associates in Centerville.

Goochland proved the perfect place for a launch party, as three of the 23 women featured hail from the county, as does the book’s publisher, Wayne Dementi.

Goochlanders Robin Traywick Williams, Nellie Cox and Dr. Olive Britt are all featured in the 165-page book, which is available at tack shops, independent book stores and gift stores across the state.

Written by Midlothian author Francis Marion Bush, the coffee table book explores the accomplishments of the women in the Thoroughbred industry and shares a few of their stories from horse racing and beyond.

Bush said that his lifelong interest and research in horse racing led him to believe that an “opportunity existed to tell the wonderful stories of women who have made a difference.”

The book retails for $24.95 and is available locally at Saddlery Trade Associates, Easy Rider and at most museum shops around Richmond.

For more information, contact Wayne Dementi at 363-0160 or by e-mail .

“It’s exciting and a tremendous honor to be in the same book with such legendary horsewomen,” said Williams, who was recently named to the board of the Throughbred Retirement Foundation.

“It’s a fabulous list and I’m thrilled to be included in the same breath with any of them,” she said.
