A group dedicated to promoting Goochland County as a tourist attraction took a few more steps toward achieving its goals last week, announcing that its web site is up and introducing its members to a new blog.

At what was called a “Summer Soiree” gathering, 35 Mile Drive Association members came to the home of the organization’s president, Aynsley Fisher, for an informational meeting.

Fisher gave tutorials on how to add posts to the association’s blog, now up and running.

“It’s a tool for all of you to use,” said Fisher, who is administrating the blog.

She also announced that the association would shift to a quarterly meeting schedule, with each meeting having a social component.

“That way we’ll have a little bit of business and then an opportunity for socializing and networking,” said Fisher.

Association business would be conducted via the emailed newsletter between meetings, she said.

Fisher also distributed the association’s new decals to members.

The organization discussed plans for a signature event for the association. Teri Phipps of Fireweed Farm Alpacas presented a plan for a possible event to be held in October.

The planned farm and site tour might consist of five or six places, said Phipps, with participants able to buy tickets for one or all of the sites.

Some of the money raised might go back into the community to support things such as a food pantry, suggested Phipps.

“So this would not only be a fundraiser for us but a way to give back to Goochland County,” said Phipps.
