Anne Hardwick is this year’s Christmas Mother.

The Goochland Christmas Mother Association today named Anne L. Hardwick as Christmas Mother 2009. 

“I am very honored” she said, “to serve as the 46th Goochland Christmas Mother to help those in need have a happier Christmas”. 

The Goochland Christmas Mother program has been serving the community since 1963.

Anne and her husband, Jim have been a part of Goochland since they purchased the historic Tanglewood Ordinary restaurant, located on Route 6 in Maidens, and moved to the county in 1986 from Richmond. 

They have both been community minded during their more than two decades here.

Anne is a past president and continues to be a member of the Goochland Woman’s Club, which serves the community by supporting many county programs, including the Christmas Mother, the Relay for Life and others, as well as providing a scholarship to a college bound Goochland High School senior. 

Her husband participated in the Lion’s Club, the Ruritan Club and served a term on the Board of Supervisors.

“We have met and gotten to know so many members of the community through the restaurant and our community service.  I am very glad to be able to do the work to help raise the dollars that make Christmas a happy day for so many,” Anne said.

“The Christmas Mother program is important to me not only because it makes Christmas special for so many”, she added, “but also because my grandmother, Anne Traylor Larus (Mrs. Lewis G.), served as the first Christmas Mother for Richmond in 1936”.

In addition to being co-proprietor of Tanglewood Ordinary restaurant, which has been serving southern comfort food family style for over 23 years, Anne worked for the Commonwealth of Virginia in the telecommunications area, retiring this past February. 

She was active and served in a leadership role in a number of professional organizations, including the International Multimedia and Collaborative Communications Alliance (IMCCA) and the National Association of State Technology Directors (NASTD). 

She currently works as a contractor for York Telecom, a visual services solutions company.
