Henry and Judy Cathey of Naxera announce the engagement of their daughter, Macon Barnhardt Cathey, to David Allen Thornton, son of John and Ronnie Thornton of Manakin-Sabot.

Miss Cathey, a 1997 graduate of Gloucester High School, earned a B.A. degree in sociology from Emory University in 2001.  She owns Tallulah Jewelry in Wilmington, NC. 

Mr. Thornton, a 1993 graduate of Collegiate High School in Richmond earned a B.A. degree in environmental sciences degree from of the University of North Carolina at Wilmington in 1998.  He is employed as an environmental consultant by Walton Engineering Company of Burgaw, NC.

A wedding is planned for May 23 at the home of the bride in Naxera.
